Gage-Tyler Cup 2003 Round 4

16 July 2003

Six teams arrived for this round 4 event. The station was run by Ray Goodearl. The signal at the start was fairly good, around 10-14km was guessed (wrong). Most teams headed northish, near to Beaconsfield (except one team who raced down M4, onto M25, down to Chalfont St. Peter then on to Amersham, within the 28 mins before the 8pm transmission!) The signal at Beaconsfield was very weak suggesting that the Tx was a lot closer to the start.

The 8.15 transmission confirmed that he was in a small wood in the middle of Flackwell Heath. It was a bit of a sod to find footpath into wood and, on entering wood, found most of it ringed with a barbed wire fence. The next signal confirmed the site was the other side of the barbed wire fence. On searching likely spots, we found Ray hidden near to a wettish pit.

Four teams found the transmitter without opening the start form, the fifth team used it as practice.

Good news was Peter Lisle did not win this event; reason was he did not turn up (hooray).

Brian Bristow.
