Collier Cup 2004 Round 2

07 May 2004

Seven teams started this event. The Tx operator was Peter Lisle. A suprise appearance was made by Ray Goodearl after seven years absence.

Signal was heard at start by all, it was once again drifting (possibly over to Colchester!!). Most teams plotted circa 120 degrees and set off in various directions. I, like some other teams, drove as far as Marlow outskirts to find the 8pm signal quite strong pointing towards the Bourne End area. I drove down for the 8:15 signal towards the river Thames foot path which, I understand, is where Scary Spice lives. As I awaited the signal, certain persons came out of households to enquire what I was doing in such a quiet area. The signal came on and, after taking bearing, replied I was in training to catch spies for the country. They were impressed with my comments, wished me well and left.

After taking another signal, eventually arrived at Cores End near Bourne End and ran across a field into a large amount of blackthorn bushes etc., which was the side bank of a disused railway. To my amazement, no teams at that time had found Peter, but the next transmission every team except one ran into the area where Peter was hidden. The winner was again Chris Plummer (can anybody get him back to either Manchester or Colchester, PLEASE). The only sad part of the evening was that Geoff Foster finally found the Tx 19 secs after closedown.

Brian Bristow.
