Collier Cup 2004 Round 7

01 October 2004

It was noted from their absence that a few teams watched or heard the weather forecast for this DF evening; only five teams arrived at the start. However, the weather was fine while the bearings were being taken.

Peter Bradley, G3UJO/P, was operating. The signal at the start was extremely strong with most teams plotting a bearing of about 332 which gave them a bearing towards Shabbington and Wheatley. At the 8pm transmission most teams were in this area when the rain appeared, just on cue for Peter's second transmission. It then became the stair-rod type of rain.

Steve Stone was just outside Shabbington at 8pm only a short way from where Peter was hidden, after finding his car at a nearby pub. Chris Plummer arrived shortly afterwards only to find Steve running back into the pub car park! Unknown to Chris, Steve had returned for a better torch. With the 8:15 signal now on, three teams were near to Peter who was situated near a large pond and various streams about 600 yards from the road into Shabbington with a Wet earth and quarter wave aerial. First in was Steve Stone which was a total suprise as Steve has nearly always finished fourth on recent events (peaked too late). The last team to find Peter was at 8:44 so everybody got back to the pub early.
