After a massive rain storm during the afternoon, the sky became bright and dry for this, the second Wednesday evening event. Thanks to a last-minute change, Bob Gray was on the Tx.
Again, nine teams started. The signal was audible but weak. Most teams (not
all) stayed on the Reading map. I stopped only a mile up the road at 8pm and actually drove past the site at 8:02. After finding that my judgement for the Tx location was very poor, I arrived on site at 8:18 to find four other teams waiting for a signal. Chris Plummer was walking back to his car with a receiver failure (we thought). At 8:30, the signal came on and it was so strong no normal DF-er could possibly not find it. After running to the motorway fence and then crossing back under the motorway, I found to my disgust that the Tx was on the side we were all on at the beginnning (Hare and tortoise). Eight teams managed to find Bob in time and then descended to the pub to celebrate or, in my case, SULK.
Brian Bristow.
