Nine teams arrived for the second round of the Collier Cup, which was operated by Peter Bradley, G3UJO/P. All teams managed to take a bearing on Peter. After leaving the start, most teams elected to go down the M40 motorway towards Oxford with one exception who turned down the opposite way towards High Wycombe! (Whoops, Geoffrey!) At the 8pm Tx signal, a few teams managed to get near Culham where the signal was fairly strong, giving a bearing across the forest behind Culham towards the River Thames at Radley.
I decided that Peter was the other side of the river so drove around to Abingdon, then down to Radley where we managed to find Peter's Fiesta car parked. We ran down to the Thames path and when the 8:30 signal came on, it thankfully took us about a mile down the Thames path. Soon afterwards, Bill Pechey caught us up and, with the next transmission, Bill went in front, only to stop short of a small bridge. On asking him if he had been in to the station, Bill replied, "No". I then suggested that Peter could be under the bridge, Bill stated that was his next objective so I beat him to it (sorry Bill).
With these two teams well pleased with their efforts it appeared ages before Roger Shepherd ran past us and towards the bridge. To our amazement, he looked under the bridge twice and was convinced Peter was lying in the nearby boonies. With dusk decending, three other teams arrived and found Peter. To our surprise three well-known teams failed to turn up (except to the pub afterwards).
