Gage-Tyler Cup 2006 Round 2

19 April 2006

A brief report this time as I'm still sulking!

A good turnout of eight teams started this round two event at Maidenhead Thicket, with two teams returning after a brief absence in the guise of Roger Shepherd and Mr. X (also known now as possibly David Ryan!). All teams heard Alan Simmons at the start but skywave movement caused at least one team to take a bearing of 340 against most teams of 20. At the 8pm Tx signal I was positioned near Princes Risborough (now guess who took 340). The signal was not as strong as expected so we drove up the hills to Great Hampden, then on to Prestwood and finally decided to drive across to near Penn Wood where the signal appeared still weak! Near to 8.50pm, we arrived at Coleshill only to find the was signal weaker than at the start. I felt that there was a possibility that I would have to open the envelope, but no, we drove back to Penn Street and then searched for DF cars and, yes, we found them (all seven teams). After a slight trot, I heard Alan pleading for a response from me as he wished to close down the site after all the other teams had finished. The good part was the new set DFed right to him, the bad part was we were LAST. After making sure all teams were actually paid up members of the Mid-Thames RDF club we accepted eighth place.
