2006 Gage-Tyler Cup Round 6

21 June 2006

Eight teams started this, the longest day evening event (and to some the most frustrating). Peter Lisle was on the Tx. The first signal was heard by all competitors but fairly weak with sky wave adding to a host of different bearings. With the main A404 blocked northbound the teams had a slow and difficult time getting far enough up the map for the 8pm signal, which pointed a bearing onto the Aylesbury map towards Great Missenden. At the 8:15 transmission it appeared that Peter was possibly hiding in a wooded complex called Weedonhill Wood. While travelling towards this wood I noticed a VW Golf catching us up at very high speed so let it go past (it finally stopped at Wendover!) (sorry Roger). On turning into a small car park we found Mark Coventry and Steve Stone's vehicles already cold. We ran into the fir plantation with the signal on but found actually locating this station quite difficult. Mark Coventry was having great fun trying to educate me about finding Peter. After two more signals, finally tracked Peter down together with his son. All teams eventually found Peter and as we were discussing our success or misfortunes at the car park a certain team came and tried to see if his DF set would bounce on the hard ground. To our amazement it flew to pieces! (If there is a DF set made of rubber that will be fine).

Mark Coventry won this event in style with Steve a few minutes behind.
