Fourteen teams took part in the first of this year's qualifying events. The teams assembled at the entrance to the Dalgety agricultural site in the south west corner of the map – thanks to Graham Nicholls for getting permission for its use.
Station A, G4CFG/P, was located approximately 12 km from the start at a bearing of 349 degrees. The transmitter was hidden in a wood north of Syresham. The aerial was a simple long wire running parallel with a footpath passing through the wood. 10 of the 14 teams decided to come to this station first with Paul Clark leading the field at 14:25. It was nearly an hour later when 10th man Graham Nicholls arrived.
Station B, G4KZU, was located approximately 25 km from the start at a bearing of 39 degrees. The transmitter was hidden in the southern half of Salcey Forest, again using a simple long wire aerial running along the tracks. It appears this station was the more difficult of the two to find since the four teams that tackled this site first didn’t manage to locate Station A, although some came very close.
An excellent tea was served after the event by the good ladies of Yardley Gobion WI - many thanks to them for their service.
Tim Parker and Phil Cunningham qualify for the National Final.
