2014 Gage-Tyler Cup round 3

21 May 2014

Four competitors gathered on a fine evening. There was a good signal with some static; most competitors got a bearing of 65 to 70 degrees. we all then homed in on Littleworth Common, near Burnham Beeches.

We then all returned to the Jolly Woodman (what a jewel of a pub/restaurant) to round off the evening.

Operator's Report

The site chosen wasn't as difficult as I hoped it would be. It came about because I was asked to swap with Dave Ryan and didn't have much time to find somewhere suitable, it's getting much harder to find somewhere new on the Reading and Windsor map.

I chose Littleworth Common because it's a small area with other potential spots all around, which hopefully would have caused some delay in pinning me down. I wasn't well hidden due to the potential bad weather forecast, so wanted to be able to get out quickly should thunder and lightning develop.

Only put up a short aerial, about 25m probably, but had a fair bit of height. Was hoping a weak signal would result but it was stronger than I wanted. Most teams seemed to think I could be further East, so went to the Beaconsfield area for 8pm and got a strong bearing back to me.

Peter got to me at 8.30, so it wasn't too bad. It was only John who struggled having spent some time exploring a wood to the East and couldn't seem to get a proper sense back to me.
