Having had a few recent long treks on these evening events, I thought I would do a 'close event'. First walk through those woods didn't seem promising until I dropped down the slope and found a dense area, although reasonably small had sufficient cover to be worth while.
The only real difficulty with the site was the climb up the hill if you came from Skirmett or Fingest. Apologies to those who suffered.
Put the aerial up on Thursday evening, but as it was so hot didn't end up exactly where I wanted to be in deeper undergrowth, which would have required much crawling on hands and knees. Couldn't get the wire very high, so was worried about getting a signal to the start being on the far side of the hill from the start. Turned out OK though with a good signal reported.
Once on site everybody found me without difficulty. I wasn't aware of the parking problems due to the popularity of the pub, sounds like Peter was lucky to grab the first available spot.
