Six teams assembled at Maidenhead on a wet evening. Min was on the transmitter. All was not well at the start as I had forgotten to bring a waterproof top and Steve had forgotten his compass. Fortunately, Peter Lisle came to my rescue with the loan of a waterproof.

Nobody heard the station at the start so we were given an approximate bearing of 220 degrees and a distance of less than 15km. I decided to head down the M4 to Winnersh where there is a car park at the Berkshire Air Museum and a nearby country park. This was close to the approximate bearing. I just made it for the 2000 transmission and the signal was strong. There were two possibilities, either the Dinton Pastures Country Park or an area with a lake, called The Moor, on the other side of The Bader Way. With hindsight I could have walked from the car park but decided to take another bearing at 2015. I headed south of the A329 to Sindlesham where the signal was much weaker than at 2000. This indicated The Moor. There were no footpaths shown on the map but I found a way in from the adjacent road. The 2030 transmission showed I was in the right area and ended up under some power lines. I eventually tracked down Min from the 2040 transmission and was told I was first in! Unusually for a DF, I did not see any other competitors until I got to the pub. It turned out that there was a much quicker way into the site from another footpath but I enjoyed my walk along the muddy footpath and the knee high wet grass!
