2016 Gage-Tyler Cup round 7

14 September 2016

At 19.30 on Maidenhead Thicket I think everyone could hear the signal from G3UES/P, but totally sky-wave, so I opened the "approx bearing" envelope ( 150 deg ).  Justin and I went West on the M4 and down the A329 around Bracknell.  We were not in a good position to stop at 20.00 so missed that transmission, but continued towards Chobham. We stopped at 20.15, took a bearing and then planned to stop in the car park at Gracious Pond to try and get an accurate cross bearing.  In the car park was a familiar Jaguar (car) ! When the signal came on, we legged it down Gracious Pond road and crossed Stonehill road onto the bridle path and into the woods. The receiver bearings did not take us directly towards the transmitter, but the LED bar-graph strength meter was very useful leading us towards the strongest signal and into the correct area, and then we found a big rhododendron area below some tall trees.  Justin's portable search-light located the aerial and then he found David.  We stayed in the general area, helping (?) others, and at 21.30 helped David retrieve the aerial and get back to the car.

I don't recommend wearing shorts, or standard shoes on a D.F. contest.
